6 tips to overcome shyness

Being shy can be described as the feeling of nervousness in the midst of other people, it is simple just being uncomfortable when meeting and talking to people. The rule of thumb is to look over people’s head when confronted with the plentiful daunting eyes whether in our small classrooms or in large conference hall.
Looking at people’s head can’t be the only solutions.  Some of us won’t even get the chance to speak in public, how can we even agree to speak in public when we know we are shy?
They are other simpler and basic things we can do to overcome shyness.

I would like to point out that no one should be comfortable with being shy, and it should never be mistaken for being reserved or calm.
Being shy is not totally bad, it’s only when it takes control of us that it becomes harmful and a threat. Remember A brave person is not one born without fear, a brave person is one that had fear and overcame that fear.

OTHER SOLUTION IN OVERCOMING SHYNESS:

  1. Make eye contact while talking to people
DO NOT STARE. Staring is different from making eye contact, it is simple taking a look at the eyes of whoever you speak to with intervals. If you stare, you not only make the other person uncomfortable but you begin to lose your stand and might fall back to being shy.

  1. Fight stage freight
At times we tend to lose our courage because of faces we see from up there, some are encouraging while some are not. Fighting stage freight is very easy if you are well prepared, whether you are shy or not proper preparation makes it less difficult for anyone to muddle up your presentation. You might be looking at their faces but your focus should be on what you are doing.

  1. Be Bold
Being bold is just overcoming shyness when the need arise, speak clearly when answering that question in class, walk straight ahead when called up, engage in things that interest you and say NO when you ought to, this are all example of being Bold.  You should draw strength from God by saying a quick prayer, you can also feel bold when you have a mental picture of what you plan to say, do or where to go before taking that action. Preparation matters a lot.

  1. Smile
Yesss! Smile, the way the mind work is if other people see you as being comfortable then you remotely become comfortable, just like magic or antenna connection. When you smile you feel at ease and become less intimidated and less intimidating, because when we try to focus on overcoming shyness we tend to look too serious and might make others uncomfortable. Smiling makes you look and feel better while talking with others.

  1. Resist discouragement
Don’t think or care about what others will say about you, if you always consider people opinion then you will have a thousand minds in your mind and would end up being confused and drawn back. Assess and process every piece of advice or information before letting it dwell in you consciousness. Your mind is not a dump.

  1. Consistency
Every great achievement is simply one positive thing done every day, keep practicing and doing thing that would make you overcome shyness.

Also make positive minded friends that would give you the chance to grow.
